Largest cupcake mosaic: Singapore sets world record (VIDEO)
SINGAPORE -- To celebrate national Day, volunteers from the Ayer Rajah Constituency, including grassroots leaders, residents, and over 1,000 youths from Ayer Rajah as well as across Singapore, used some 20,000 cupcakes to create a mosaic featuring the Singapore's national flag
- setting the new world record for the Largest cupcake mosaic,
according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

This beats the previous Guinness world record set in the United States, which used 5,900 cupcakes.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest cupcake; it weighs 1,176.6 kg (2,594 lb) and was achieved by Georgetown Cupcake (USA) at Georgetown Cupcake's national shipping headquarters in Sterling, Virginia, USA.
CommuniBake 2012 was designed to be an engaging and fun project for the youths of Singapore, bringing them together to "bake, care and share", and helping them realise that every small effort contributes towards a good cause.
The cupcakes were adopted by donors, and will be delivered to welfare homes for children, disabled and the elderly for their enjoyment across 62 locations in Singapore, so that they too can share in the spirit of National Day.

The cupcake delivery was also a volunteer effort. 50 private cars will fan out throughout Singapore within three hours, to ensure the cupcakes arrive fresh at their destinations.
Ms Foo Mee Har, Grassroots Adviser for Ayer Rajah & MP for West Coast GRC, said: "I hope their efforts and experiences serve to inspire more youths to dare to think 'big', get involved in giving back to the community, and make a difference in the lives of others."

The event raised some S$100,000 in donations for less privileged youths and low-income families.
