Longest spin: Tosy top sets world record
HANOI, Vietnam -- The TOSY spinning tops, created and produced by Vietnamese firm TOSY Robotics JSC, managed to spin a duration of 24 hour, 35 minutes and 15 seconds , setting the world record for the longest running mechanical spinning top.

The Guinness world record for the longest time to spin a basketball on a toe is 9.53 seconds by Jack Ryan (USA).
Guinness World Records also recognized the longest time to spin a frying pan on one finger: 34 mins 30 secs, achieved by Jawwad Iqbal Gaba (Pakistan).
TOSY spinning top, which has been made attractive with LED lights, imitates a Vietnam's traditional wooden toy popular between the 1970s and 1990s.
Dr. Le Quoc Hung, chief of the Hanoi Notary Public's Chamber, said that witnesses worked seriously within over 24 hours to ensure the accuracy of the record, meeting the Guinness World Records requirements.
Ho Vinh Hoang, general director of TOSY Robotics, said that the spinning top had been actually designed to run 60 hours and it did.
But the company had turned off cameras en route as the technologies at the firm do not allow such a long time of filming, Hoang said.
He said the company engineers have spent many months creating dozens of different versions of the toy to figure out how to make it run the longest time on the least energy.
On another note, TOSY said an illuminated version of the top, using a magnet stick to control, with a running duration of four hours, suitable for most children, will be released worldwide in August.
TOSY Robotics is the first Vietnamese robotics firm that produces four types of products: gigantic robots, service robots, industrial robots and hi-tech toys.
An official with the Ministry of Industry and Trade said that Tosy products can compete well with those from China as they employ high technology that is difficult to fake.
