Fastest to one million twitter followers: Obama's Twitter account breaks Guinness World Records record (VIDEO)
WASHINGTON, DC, USA -- US President Barack Obama has broken the Guinness World Records world record with his twitter account @POTUS; the US President become the fastest person to have one million followers when he broke the mark five hours into the launch of account on May 18; the new world record set by Obama's new @POTUS account beat the previous world record, which was set last year by 'Iron Man' star Robert Downey Jr., after the actor reached a million followers in 23 hours and 22 minutes, according to the World Record Academy.

The Guinness World Records' record for the Most "liked" person on Facebook (female) was set by Colombian singer Shakira (b. Shakira Mebarak Ripoll), who had the most "likes" with 100,247,580 - As of 8 May 2015.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the longest marathon hosting an internet radio talk show by a team; it is 52 hours and was achieved by Nescafe 3ΓΌ1 Arada (Turkey) in Istanbul, Turkey from 13 April - 15 April, 2012. "Six years in and they're finally giving me my own account," wrote Obama in his first tweet under the @POTUS handle.
The already verified account which now has over two million followers features the customary headshot of Obama, but also a background photo of him walking over the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, in March, when he marked the 50th anniversary of a civil rights march that changed America.
In obtaining a million followers in less than five hours, Obama broke the Guinness World Records world record previously set by actor Robert Downey Jr., who got to the one-million mark in 23 hours and 22 minutes in April 2014.
The president already has another Twitter account, @BarackObama, which is handled by the team that directed his second presidential campaign, Organizing for America, and the messages he has written there so far have been marked with the initials "bo" to differentiate them from tweets created by other presidential staffers.
The president's self-description on his Twitter profile reads: "Dad, husband, and 44th President of the United States."
White House assistant director for Internet strategy, Alex Wall, said via Twitter that the president's new account will be transferred to whoever wins the presidential election in 2016, adding that it represents a new way for Obama to communicate directly with the US people via tweets that come exclusively from him.
