to do the twist - the most popular song in billboard history - setting the new world record for the Largst Twist dance.

The Guinness world record for the largest Twist dance was 1,692 participants, and was organized by Brian Beirne and achieved by the City of Glendale, California, USA.
Guinness World Records also recognized the largest swing dance, achieved by 291 participants in an event organised by Dansefestivalen i Sel v/Øystein Ulen in Dansefestivalen, Norway.
Parade co-chairs Dennis Friesz and Marlo Anderson stated: "It is history. It certainly is. We had the chicken dance last year. This year the twist. Next year, who knows. Maybe a combination, gymnastics, back-flips and all that stuff."
"The Twist" is the most popular song in Billboard history, with Chubby Checker taking it to number one in 1960 and again in 1962.
The resulting dance craze made "The Twist" one of the most recognized dances in the world. The world record attempt was a celebration of the 50 year anniversary of "The Twist".
The world record attempt for the Largest twist dance was sponsored by: Kupper Chevrolet-Subaru, Security First, Mandan Guaranty & Title, Awesome 2 Products, Maple River Winery, Mandan Progress Organization, City of Mandan.
Mandan also set a record for the world's longest chicken dance on July 4th, 2010. The World Record Academy officially verified the record on July 23, 2010. The chicken dance spanned 24 city blocks with a distance of 1.623 miles.
