The Guinness world record for the longest chain of people licking ice cream was achieved by 2,694 participants at an event organised by Augustana College (USA) in Rock Island, Illinois, USA.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the Longest career as an ice-cream man, set by Charlie D'Angelo of Clifton, New Jersey, USA, who has been working as an ice-cream man non-stop for 30 years in his Iggy's Igloo ice-cream truck.
Daniela Morelli led the rest of her family and the thousands of record-breakers during the attempt which she said went exactly as planned. "It was great – thousands of people turned out and everything turned out very well. "The weather was superb and everything went off perfectly," she said.
Held in the grounds of Dominican College, participants stood in an orderly chain holding a tub of ice cream in their right hand and eating from the tub in the hand of the person on their left. They were required to do so for a whole minute for the attempt to be properly verified.
Speaking to the News Letter yesterday, Daniela Morelli hailed the "brilliant" achievement.
"I couldn't believe the amount of people in Portstewart - it was just unreal. You had to see it to believe it," she said.
Paying tribute to the large turnout and the team of marshalls who helped in the successful organisation of the event, she added: "It couldn't rally have happened without them. It was a big effort by everyone."
