Most guitarists at one event
[May 3] WROCLAW, Poland / 1,876 guitarists joined
at the market square of the Polish city of Wroclaw to play the singer's
1960 rock anthem 'Hey Joe' at the fifth 'Thanks Jimi Festival' organised
by Polish blues guitarist Leszek Cichonski.
Although Guinness has not validated the achievement
as yet, the organisers are sure that it is for the first time so
many people have gathered for such an event. A statement confirming
the number of participants will be send to the Guinness World Records.
Several bands in and around the city played blues
standards and rock hits by English rock band 'Led Zeppelin', hard
rock band 'Deep Purple' and 'The Times They Are a-Changin' singer
Bob Dylan as well as their own compositions.
"With the power of soul anything is possible.
This is what Jimi Hendrix claimed 30 years ago, but it is still
true", BBC quoted Cichonski, as saying.
The day marked the third anniversary of Poland's
membership of the European Union and musicians marched around market
square to acknowledge the day.The organisers are already enthusiastic
about the next year's event and plan to invite more guitarists from
different parts of the world and broadcast the event on web and
video screens.
New York is one of the many cities that has shown
interest in taking part in the event.
