Highest speed date: Expedia breaks Guinness
world record (VIDEO)

 VENICE
, Italy -- Love was literally in the air, as daters from across Britain and Western Europe flew to the capital of romance, Venice, on the inaugural Expedia 'Holidate,' as part of Expedia's 'Holidate', a social experiment designed to prove the link between travel and love, which sets
the new world record for the Highest speed date, according to the World Record Academy: www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

A total of 60 daters from the UK, Germany, France and Ireland had 21 three minute dates at 35,000ft on a flight from Luton to the romantic city of Venice. The new record was part of the Expedia Holidate, a dating experiment to understand how travel affects your dating experience. Photo: Expedia/WRA (enlarge photo)

The Guinness world record for the largest speed dating event consisted of 435 participants and was organised by 5FM (South Africa) at Clapham Gold Night Club in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest speed dating event (Multi-Venue); it involved 1,240 people across Australia, and was organised by Fast Impressions to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the dating organisation RSVP and help funding the Drought Relief.

The Guinness World Record has been broken as part of Expedia's 'Holidate', a social experiment designed to prove the link between travel and love, with daters taking part in a series of different dates over 24 hours; in the UK, in the air and in Venice.

The 60 male and female singletons, including 30 daters from the UK, signed up for the Expedia dating experiment through new dating website, the first dating site that focuses on interesting, fun activities people can do on date.

Andy Washington, Managing Director of Expedia UK and Ireland said, "For us at Expedia the value of travel lasts long after the tan has faded. Whether it's meeting a new romance whilst on holiday, travelling on your first trip together, the proposal, wedding or even an anniversary, it's clear that travel plays a key role in many of our relationships…that is certainly true of our office! One of the great things about travel is the way it brings people together, so we're thrilled to have been able to set a world record doing just that."
