KANSAS CITY, Kan., USA -- Representatives from Red Sun Greenhouse Vegetables, Dole Fresh Vegetables and Farmland Foods put together a 209 foot-long BLT (bacon, lettuce and tomato) sandwich at this year's AWG Spring Tradeshow - setting the new world record for the Longest BLT sandwich while raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The Guinness world record for the largest open sandwich was a barbecue pork bun weighing 606.45 kg (1,337 lb) which was prepared by Moore's BBQ (USA) in New Bern, North Carolina, USA.
Guinness World Records also recognized the longest picnic: it measures 1,979 m (6,492 ft 9 in) and was organised at the Ziegelwiese, Halle Saale, Germany.
It took 14 people 42 minutes to build the World's Largest BLT sandwich at the Associated Wholesale Grocers Spring Food Show in Kansas City, Mo., said Dave Leiker, Associated's director of produce for Kansas City. (enlarge photo)
"The idea started out as a contest to see who could make the best tasting BLT," said Harold Paivarinta, U.S. director of sales for Red Sun, Ontario, Canada.
"Then we realized that would be pretty hard to judge, so someone said why don't we go for the record?"
Just in time for lunch, and after the measurements were taken, the sandwich was cut into pieces and show attendees donated money to the Muscular Dystrophy Association to get a piece of the tasty action.
Sabrina Pokomandy, marketing manager for Red Sun, said the company would also donate $1,000.
