The Guinness world record for the longest picnic table measures 75.65 metres (248 ft 2 in) and was created by Deirdre Sargent (USA) at the New Orleans City Park, New Orleans, USA.
Guinness World Records also recognized the largest picnic, set by 22,232 people and organized by Realizar Impact Marketing and Modelo (Portugal).
The World's Longest Picnic Table was created from a staggering 3540 screws, 1,230 metres of timber and weighed in at an immense 2.75 tonnes – the weight of a small whale!
Blur bassist Alex James hosted the event which intended to smash the current record of 76m (249ft).
After the record attempt the table was due to be divided and sections donated to parks across the capital.
Some of the Big Lunch's most active London boroughs have been chosen to receive these tables for parks in their area
The event was held in support of the third annual Big Lunch on 5 June, which is led by the Eden Project and funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
The Big Lunch is a very simple idea from the Eden Project. The aim is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.
