The previous Guinness world record was achieved by 6,166 participants at an event organised by Roger Crouch and the town of Hastings (United Kingdom).
Guinness World Records also recognized the Largest gathering of people dressed as Robin Hood: 1,119 at Castle Green, Nottingham, UK.
The pirate gathering was part of the Golowan Festival to celebrate the traditional feast of St John.
Organiser Andy Hazelhurst said: 'We had all sorts of standards of costume from Johnny Depp look-a-likes to little kids with stripy t-shirts.
'We even had dogs dressed up, although they didn't get counted.'
To qualify, pirates had to wear a pirate hat or bandana, pirate-style trousers and shirt and an accessory such as parrot, cutlass or eyepatch.
