The previous Guinness world record for the largest bikini parade was achieved by 331 participants at an event organised by the Cayman Islands Amateur Swimming Association at Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest bikini photo shoot, which involved 1,923 participants for an event organised by Cosmopolitan magazine (Russia) on Riviera Beach in Sochi, Russia.
The women, in tiny two pieces and pink visors, paraded around Surfers Paradise beach on the Gold Coast as throngs of onlookers whooped, hollered and snapped pictures.
The line stretched more than 200m and proved to be more than a little distracting for some.
"It reinforces the kind of fun and attractive culture the Gold Coast is famous for," Gold Coast Tourism chief executive Martin Winter said
"With this event it is the greatest piece if destination marketing I have seen in a long time," said Surfers Paradise Alliance chief executive Mike Winlaw.
"The overall publicity will see a lot of people take another look at what the Gold Coast has got and come back for, hopefully, a long stay."
