Largest nachos: Ninety Nine Restaurants sets world record (HD Video) BILLERICA, Mass., USA -- The Ninety Nine Restaurant in Billerica, north of Boston, celebrated the return of nachos to the menu by creating a 3,999-pound serving nachos - which sets the new world record for the Largest nachos, according to World Record Academy (www.worldrecordacademy.com).
The previous Guinness world record for the
largest serving of nachos weighed 1,613.12 kg (3,556 lb 4 oz) and was made by a team led by Lolly Ahlgrim at Northstar Church in Frisco, Texas, USA.
Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest serving of guacamole: it weighed 1,866.08 kg (4,114 lb) and was achieved by Schnebly Redland's Winery, Fresh King Inc., Robert Morgan Vocational Senior High School, John A Ferguson Senior High School, South Dade Senior High School and Homestead Senior High School (all USA) at Schnebly Redland's Winery, Homestead, Florida, USA.
The World's Largest Nachos weighed in at 3,999 pounds and sat atop a giant, 70 foot, custom-made table in the shape of a horseshoe to reflect the restaurant's logo, Boston TV station WCVB reported.
"We've listened to our guests who have requested that nachos come back to our menu and this was a fantastic way to re-introduce them while also showcasing the ingredients we use daily to make our crave-worthy food at the Ninety Nine," Ninety Nine Restaurants President John Grady said.
Led by Ninety Nine Restaurants Executive Chef George Tagarelis, four teams of five people constructed the 1,105 pounds of nachos, layer by layer over the giant table.
A second team laid out 825 lbs. of Monterey jack and cheddar cheeses, which was melted using oversized torch guns.
The next team added the 439 pounds of cheese sauce, 451 pounds of salsa, 459 pounds of chili, 199 pounds of jalapeño peppers, 90 pounds of diced red onion, 421 pounds of sour cream, and 8 pounds of chopped cilantro.
The World's Largest Nachos were created to commemorate a new menu item and to kick off the chain-wide fundraising month for the Boys & Girls Clubs.
